Trying to get maximum "likes" on Facebook proved costly for a young man, who decided to get inside an enclosure inside the Hyderabad zoo and pose standing atop the seniormost inhabitant -- a Galapagos tortoise that's over 120 years old.
Fazal Shaik, 24, who had got the photo clicked last May, was arrested yesterday after the photos were circulated on social media.
The police have booked him under the Wildlife Protection Act. If convicted, he could be jailed for six months or made to pay a fine of Rs 2000.
"I wanted to put it up on Facebook, that was my only intention. I got a lot of likes but it proved costly for sure,'' said Mr Shaik, who works at a local garage.
The zoo authorities, however, do not consider it a security lapse. "This will prove a lesson for many others trying such misadventures,'' said Ramakrishna Rao, Curator of the Nehru Zoological Park.
In September, a man was mauled by a white tiger in Delhi zoo after he had jumped inside the enclosure. His relatives later said he was mentally disbalanced. Five similar incidents had occurred over the last eight years in various zoos across the country.
