This Year's Vijaya Dashami 'Very Special': PM Narendra Modi

PM Modi's remarks came in the backdrop of Army's surgical strikes in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the Vijaya Dashami this year would be a "very special one."

Though the PM made no direct mention about Indian Amry's surgical strikes across the Line of Control, his comments were seen in the context of the Army's raid on terror launch pads in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK).

"In the coming days, we will be celebrating Vijaya Dashami. This year, our Vijaya Dashami will be special," PM Modi said amidst thunderous applause.

Releasing a compendium of 15 books on the life and teachings of the Jana Sangh founder, Prime Minister Modi quoted Deen Dayal Upadhaya on the need to have a strong military force.

"He used say that a nation's Army must be very powerful and only then the nation becomes strong," said PM Modi with a clear message to India's neighbor.

"By strong, it doesn't mean it is against someone else. When we exercise in the morning, our neighbors don't have to get scared. We are doing it for our health," he said.

The Prime Minister argued that the biggest contribution of Deen Dayal Upadhaya was the creation of an organisation based political party that is not run by a handful of people.

"In such a short time, he laid the foundation of an ideology that helped us move from Opposition (Vipaksh) to forming an alternative Government (Vikalp),"said the Prime Minister.

To celebrate the birth centenary of the Jana Sangh founder, Prime Minister Modi said his government would dedicate its policies for the welfare of the poorest of the poor in keeping with Upadhaya's philosophy of antodyaya or empowering the weakest.
