Jammu:
Three persons were injured in a petrol-bomb attack on a truck during protests against the death of three cows in Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir.
The attack triggered chaos in Jammu and Kashmir assembly today and opposition National Conference blamed BJP workers for the attack on Kashmiri truckers.
The government said three accused have been arrested and efforts are on to find the other attackers.
The injured who suffered serious burns have been shifted to the GMC Hospital where the condition of one is stated to be critical. The government said the director general of police is visiting Udhampur to assess the situation.
Unconvinced by the government's statement, the entire opposition staged a walk out from the House.
Protests and a shutdown have roiled Udhampur and adjacent areas for last two days after carcasses of three cows were found in the on Thursday. Protesters also blocked Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
As per a medical report, officials say, the cows have died due to consumption of poisonous substance but locals and several groups protesting against the death of cows allege that they were killed by humans.
Some political and religious groups have also called for Jammu bandh today.
Earlier this week, several BJP legislators attacked an Independent MLA Engineer Rashid, inside the Jammu and Kashmir assembly for hosting a beef party.
Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed condemned the assault. Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh of the BJP - which partners the Mufti's Peoples Democratic Party or PDP in governing Jammu and Kashmir - said he did not approve of what had happened, but also criticised Mr Rashid for serving beef to his guests on the lawns of Srinagar's MLA hostel on Wednesday.
