Dubai:
Three Bahrainis have been given two years jail term for assaulting two Indian tailors with scissors and wooden planks in that country in 2011.
The defendants were convicted of assault by a Criminal Court in Bahrain yesterday.
They attacked the workers in a tailoring shop in Daih in August 2011 after anti-government protests broke out in the Gulf nation, the Gulf Daily News reported.
The victims told prosecutors that five men entered their shop and started attacking them with scissors and wooden planks.
"We were in the shop when five Bahraini men, who just finished participating in an illegal gathering, stormed in and started attacking us," a 32-year-old victim told prosecutors in his statement.
"One of them grabbed the scissors and started stabbing my head and back. The rest of the men then started kicking me around, while I was on the ground.
"My colleague was then hit on the head with a wooden plank and they started kicking him around too."
However, only three men were implicated in the case. One of the defendants, aged in his 20s, told prosecutors that he attacked the victims in a bid to scare foreigners away from Bahrain.
"We attacked the Asians as we thought it would scare away foreigners following the unrest in 2011."
