Chinese President Hu Jintao is arriving in Delhi today for the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, Chinaand South Africa) Summit on Thursday. Ahead of his arrival, security has been tightened in some places keeping in mind protest by the Tibetans.
The police will not allow large gatherings near Connaught Place, a day after a Tibetan youth set himself ablaze in protest against the Chinese President Hu's visit.
Police have cordoned off areas around Tibetan settlementsin the national capital, while some Tibetans were arrested from different partsof the city on Tuesday.
Two Tibetans were arrested from New Delhi's Press Club, where they were protestingagainst the Chinese President's visit to the city.
"Some more Tibetans were also arrested from different parts of the city -India Habitat Centre and Ambedkar Bhavan - for holding demonstrations againstHu. But the exact number of arrested people is not known yet," said YoudonAukatsang, member of Tibetans' Tehor Welfare Society.
More than 50 Tibetans were arrested on Monday, after a 27-year-old man sethimself on fire during a demonstration against Hu's India visit, said aprotester.
The protesters were sent to Tihar Jail for law and order violation.
General Secretary of the Tibetan Youth Congress Tenzin Chokey said that the policehave cordoned off Tibetan settlement areas to prevent the protesters from goingout.
"The Tibetan youth hostel in west Delhi's Rohini area has been sealedsince Monday night while some other areas like Pitampura and Majnu Ka Tila havebeen cordoned off," said Chokey.
However, senior Delhi Police officials said they have only taken precautionarymeasures to avoid any untoward incidents.
"Some Tibetans were nabbed as they were found to be involved in theprotest," said a senior police official.
"No Tibetan has been arrested so far. Police teams have been deployed inareas where Tibetans reside to keep a watch on them in order to avoid any kindof untoward incident like Monday's self-immolation case," said RajanBhagat, Delhi Police spokesperson.
