A tiger was was mowed down by a speeding train near Majhgavan railway station in Satna, a forest official said today.
The incident took place last night in Majhgavan range Chithara area, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Satna, R B Sharma said.
The carcass of the four-year-old male tiger has been recovered and taken for post-mortem, he said.
Forest officials said that presence of four tigers was detected in the area and efforts are underway to ensure that such incidents do not take place again.
The forest department will also write to Railways to regulate the speed of trains passing through the forest area for the safety of wild animals, Mr Sharma said.
