Chandigarh:
Security has been tightened across Mohali where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate a newly built airport terminal today. Prohibitory orders are in place at several places.
Last night, some local Congress leaders who were allegedly planning black flag protests against the PM's visit were detained by the police.
At least 4,500 police personnel have been deployed to keep vigil. A team of more than 30 members of the Special Protection Group (SPG) landed in the city on Tuesday to chalk out a security plan.
The PM is set to inaugurate the new terminal located at the Mohali airport in the morning after which he will attend a convocation function at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). Later in the day, he will address a public meeting at a rally ground in Sector 25.
Thousands of students in government and private schools across Chandigarh are enjoying a holiday as authorities have ordered all schools to remain closed. Examinations scheduled for Friday in some schools have also been postponed.
