To Counter Propaganda, Congress Exploring Option of Launching TV Channel

Senior Congress leader, AK Antony acknowledged that the party is far behind other political parties, especially the BJP, when it came to utilising the possibilities of new-age media.

New Delhi: In order to reach out to the masses, the Congress party is seriously considering the option of launching a national TV channel, indicated senior Congress leader AK Antony today.

According to the former Defence minister, the party is lagging behind in the use of latest technology and new-age communication systems.

Mr Antony said, "Despite being the oldest democratic force, Congress is lagging behind in new-age communication systems and is not able to catch the limelight in comparison to other parties."

Compared to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who joined Twitter in 2009, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi opened his official twitter handle only in May this year.

The 74-year-old acknowledged that the party is far behind other political parties, especially the BJP, when it came to utilising the possibilities of new-age media.

"We are not able to counter false propaganda," said Mr Antony.

According to the senior leader, discussions are on in the party to convert their regional channel in Kerala, 'Jaihind TV', to a national channel. The channel is being successfully run by the state unit for the last eight years. The channel was launched in 2007 by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
