Latest News Updates: The active coronavirus infections in the country have reduced to 1,47,306.

New Delhi:

India's total tally of COVID-19 cases surged to 1,10,16,434 with 10,584 new infections being reported in a day, while the recoveries have crossed 1.07 crore, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The death count increased to 1,56,463 with 78 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,07,12,665 which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 97.24 per cent and the case fatality rate stands at 1.42 per cent.

The active coronavirus infections in the country have reduced to 1,47,306 which comprises 1.34 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.

Meanwhile, more than 500,000 people have died from Covid-19 in the United States since the pandemic began, according to Johns Hopkins University on Monday, by far the highest reported figures of any country.

The catastrophic US figure comes as some signs of hope are emerging in the world's hardest-hit country, with millions of people now vaccinated and winter's massive spike in infections dropping.

Coronavirus update: Israel says giving "unused" vaccines to Palestinians, others

Coronavirus news: Indonesia reports 9,775 new COVID-19 cases, 323 more deaths

The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 9,775 within one day to 1,298,608, with the death count adding by 323 to 35,014, the health ministry said on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, 7,996 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,104,990.

Maharashtra: 479 New COVID-19 Cases In Thane, 5 More Deaths

Thane has reported 479 new cases of coronavirus, raising the infection count in Maharashtra district to 2,61,204,an official said on Tuesday. Besides these new cases reported on Monday, five more people died of the viral infection, taking the toll in the district to 6,243, he said.
The COVID-19 fatality rate in the district stands at 2.40 per cent, he said.
