Top Border Security Force officer killed in blast

Srinagar: A Border Security Force (BSF) patrol, which crossed border fence, ended in tragedy. A Deputy Inspector General of BSF OP Tanwar died when his jeep hit a mine. He was leading a team after militants tried to infiltrate on Sunday night in Samba amidst heavy firing.

The 52-year-old Tanwar, who was DIG (Headquarters, BSF Frontier, Jammu), was officiating as DIG of the operational area in Samba.

The attack is clear indication that militants have got into Indian side and have found enough time to lay the mine and choose their target.

And there's worse news on infiltration from Kashmir. Despite the onset of winter and snow, there seems to be a fresh push by cross-border militants.

In the last two days the Army has been battling a large group of around 10 militants, who came in from the Keran sector in Kupwara district. Two Armymen and at least one militant have been killed.

One day before, 5 militants were been killed in the Uri sector and in south Kashmir. Today after 6 hours of long encounter, Hizbul Mujaideen commander Rehman Gorsi was killed, but his associate managed to escape.

SSP Pulwama Kifayat Haider said, "We have the information. Civilans have informed us that there are two militants inside. One has been located. He is dead.''

Sources say, militant handlers across the border are trying to push in more and more militants before the winter sets in and passes along LoC (Line of Control) get closed due to snowfall during the winter.
