Top cop lashes out at Mayawati, says he 'fears for his life'

Lucknow: A senior IPS officer in Uttar Pradesh has lashed out at Chief Minister Mayawati. He has accused her of being corrupt. The officer vented his anger before the media and fears that he will be targeted for speaking out against the government.

"I have served for many years and this government is by far the most corrupt," said D D Mishra, DIG Fire Services.

The IPS officer of 19 years seniority sat in his office and criticised the state government in front of cameras. Mishra claims he fears for his life as he opposed corruption in the procurement process in the prison department.

When asked who was he in danger of, Mishra replied, "Mayawati."

"I fear for my life," he said.

While fellow officers say that Mishra's defiance is sign of frustration in the Uttar Pradesh police, the Mayawati regime, which is known for its intolerance in such cases, says it violates service rules. This was indicated in the manner and reason Mishra was whisked away by Lucknow's top cop.

"After seeing everything, we realised that he is mentally unstable. So in this situation we called for a doctor from Civil hospital. Doctor suggested that we should take him to the hospital. Hence we have admitted him to the hospital," said DK Thakur, DIG Lucknow.

Mishra might be in trouble. But his outburst is bound to be fodder for Mayawati's political opponents in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.
