Kochi: A top Naval officer died in accidental firing at a firing range in Kochi on Wednesday.
Rear Admiral S S Jamwal, the Chief of Staff of the Southern Naval Command, died at the INS Dronacharya firing range, the Navy's Public Relations Officer said.
Jamwal was the No. 2 man in the Southern Naval Command, which is primarily a training establishment, and was a highly regarded officer. He also commanded the Frigate INS Beas as its Commissioning Captain and was the Naval Attache in Moscow earlier.
He is survived by his spouse Geeta Jamwal and two children - a daughter and son.
The incident occurred at about 10:30 am in the morning. The circumstances leading to the accident are being investigated.
