Total swine flu cases rise to 959 across India

The surge in swine flu cases continued on Monday with 95 fresh cases being reported from across the country taking the total number of cases to 959.

While 47 cases were reported in Pune, 22 are in Mumbai, 14 in Delhi, six in Panchgani, three in Mangalore and one each in Noida, Ajmer and Gurgaon.

All 47 cases in Pune are indigenous ones. In Mumbai, out of 22 cases, only one has a travel history of going to Austria. The rest are indigenous cases.

The six cases in Panchgani of Satara District are school contacts of the disease reported earlier, a senior health ministry official said.

In Delhi, out of the 14 cases, four cases have travel history. The rest are indigenous cases. The single case in Noida is a close contact of an earlier positive patient. In Ajmer, the lone case has a travel history to Dubai.

In Gurgaon, an indigenous case has been reported. In Mangalore, out of the three cases, one of them has a travel history to UK.

Around 4,513 people have been tested so far out of which 959 are found positive for swine flu. As many as 647 out of the total have been identified through entry screening, 825 through contact tracing and the rest reported voluntarily.

A central team is stationed at Pune to assess the situation and institute appropriate public health measures, the official said.
