Tourists in Mussoorie Not for Sights, but Admissions

Many schools are holding entrance exams for over 2,000 students.

Mussoorie: This week, Mussoorie is witnessing a tourist surge with a difference. People are not exactly visiting the hillside for balmy sun or tourist spots. They are parents from all over the country and abroad who have come here with the mission to secure a seat for their wards in some of the oldest schools of the country.

Close to half a dozen schools, some founded way back in the 1880's, are holding entrance exams for over 2,000 students from classes 1-9th, followed by rounds of interviews to make it to esteemed educational institutes.

"You feel nostalgic when you come back to your alma-mater with your young ones," said Pallavi Gupta and her husband Rohit, who were in the town to get their child admitted to class 1 in one of the institutions.

With limited seats available in all the schools, getting admission in most of these institutes is a tough task, but a dream come true for many.
