Banskho, Rajasthan:
Six people were killed and 21 injured after the Mandore Express, travelling between Jodhpur and Delhi, crashed at a village near Jaipur early on Saturday morning.
All 15 bogeys, including five AC coaches, seven sleeper and three general compartments, of the train were derailed.
Four bogies were badly damaged including an AC sleeper coach where rail tracks pierced into the coach. Over 400 railway personnel are now working on a war footing to restore the track on the section of North Western railway.
The Railways have ordered an enquiry into the reasons for the accident, the third major rail mishap in the past one month.
Major damage was caused due to accident.
"There was a body of a girl that was hanging in front of me. I and my wife are both doctors, we tried to revive her but found that she had stopped breathing. Soon we saw that her head had been smashed badly by these rail tracks that had pierced into our bogey," said an eyewitness.
While the entire train got derailed, four coaches capsized completely. It was only after removing these bogies that bodies trapped below could be pulled out. Was it negligence or mechanical failure that caused this disaster is a question rail authorities need to answer.
"There could be defect in rail welding, there could be defect in coach, we will have to go into all causes and all aspects," said R L Verma, G M, North western Railways.
It will take about 24 hours to clear these tracks and revive traffic, and till then all trains on the route have been diverted.
From a welding fault on the tracks here to a technical snag on the train itself, railway officials say a variety of causes may have led to this train tragedy. But whatever the final reason, this accident is bound to further shake the confidence of the millions who travel by the Indian Railways everyday.
