Train services were affected badly on Howrah-Chennai main route on Monday as over six express trains were cancelled due to cyclone in West Bengal and Orissa, leaving many passengers stranded at various places, railway sources said.
Train services were also affected in Khurda Road division of East Coast Railway (ECOR), causing late departure, while some trains were cancelled, rescheduled and short terminated due to the storm, ECOR sources said.
Trains like 2841 Howrah-Chennai Coromandel Express, 8409 Howrah-Puri Shri Jagannath Express and 467 Howrah-Bhadrak passenger trains were cancelled today, they said.
Similarly, 2840 Chennai-Howrah Mail, 8410 Puri-Howrah Shri Jagannath Express and 468 Bhadrak-Howrah passenger trains scheduled to leave from Chennai, Puri and Bhadrak respectively tomorrow would remain cancelled.
2074 Bhubaneswar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express has been short terminated at Kharagpur and returned as 2073 Howrah-Bhubaneswar Jan Shatabdi Express from Kharagpur, they said.
2665 Howrah-Kanyakumari Express would leave Howrah at 7.00 pm instead of its scheduled timing. Similarly 2863 Howrah-Yeswantpur Express, 2887 Howrah-Puri weekly express, 8005 Howrah-Raygada Samaleswari Express, 2837 Howrah-Puri Express, 2839 Howrah-Chennai Mail and 8047 Howrah-Vasco-da-Gama Amravati Express scheduled to leave Howrah today has been rescheduled to leave late.
