Burdwan, West Bengal: A woman from tribal community was allegedly gang-raped by two men at Beldanga village in Burdwan district of West Bengal while she was returning home after attending a family function with her husband.
The accused - identified as Sukumar Murmu and Shiva Murmu - were arrested and produced before a local court yesterday which remanded them to eight-days police custody, police said.
The woman is being treated at Panagarh Hospital where her condition is stated to be critical.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Wednesday night when the two accused, also from the community, blocked their way and engaged in an argument with the couple.
Police said the miscreants overpowered the husband and tied him to a tree before raping the woman.
Hearing the woman's scream, locals rushed to the spot and caught the men. They later handed them over to police.
