Tribal woman's rape: Arrested MP's supporters block highway

Jaipur: Thousands of protesters on Wednesday blocked the Jaipur-Agra highway in Dausa district after their MP Kirori Lal Meena was arrested while on a dharna against the police inaction in the alleged rape case of a tribal woman by an IPS officer about 13 years ago.

Malli Devi was allegedly kidnapped and raped by an IPS officer Madhukar Tandon. She had filed an FIR both in Noida, and in her village in Feb 1997. The Rajasthan police are yet to arrest the missing IPS officer. (Read: Senior cop accused of rape missing for 13 yrs)

"A stretch of 30 kms of the highway was blocked at many places, including Mahua, Bandikui and Lalsot by the protestors who demanded Meena's release," Gopal Singh, Additional SP of Dausa said.

He said vehicles coming to the state capital were being thoroughly checked at various entry points to ensure that the agitators do not enter the city.

Meena, Independent MP from Dausa, was arrested along with 13 others and lodged in Ajmer Central Jail in the wee hours on Wednesday. (With PTI input)
