Krishnagar:
A local leader of the ruling Trinamool Congress was shot dead at Nakashipara in Nadia district, the police said today.
Ashraful Seikh (42), member of Nakashipara panchayat Samiti, was sitting at a tea stall near Haranagar Bada Masjid yesterday night when three people came in a motorbike and fired at him, killing him on the spot, district Superintendent of Police Sabyasachi Raman Mishra said.
The victim's father Nizamuddin Seikh lodged a complaint with the police against six persons and one has been arrested, the SP said.
TMC Nadia district president Gauri Dutta alleged that the Communist party of India - Marxist and BJP were behind the murder. The two parties, however, have denied the charge, saying it is a fall out due to the internal feud of the TMC. The body has been sent for autopsy.
