Trinamool leader's wife allegedly caught cheating in college exam, teachers assaulted

Raiganj: In a shocking incident, a group of alleged Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers assaulted the principal and other teachers of the Meghnad Saha College at Itahar in West Bengal after a party leader's wife was caught cheating during an exam.

After invigilators caught her and the principal seized the answer script and a piece of paper from which the she was allegedly cheating, the student left the room.

Shortly afterwards, a group of outsiders, all workers of the TMC, arrived and demanded that her copy be returned. When that demand was rejected, the outsiders assaulted the principal and two teachers. They also ransacked offices in the college.

The student who was allegedly caught cheating is the wife of Trinamool leader and North Dinajpur Zilla Parishad member Gautam Pal.

The Trinamool, however, had denied any link with the incident.

The incident occurred on the same day when Trinamool Congress president and state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked party's student wing members that they should not take law into their own hands.

"Behave responsibly so that people can differentiate between you and those belonging to the CPM and other parties," she told a meeting of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad in Kolkata.
