Describing the Trinamool Congress as a party which has many 'lumpen elements', West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president Adhir Chowdhury today said there has been a rise in their factional feuds all over the state causing serious law and order issues.
"The clashes between the party workers themselves have resulted in serious breach on the law and order front," the former Railway minister said at a meeting at Alampur in Howrah district.
"People are scared. They had removed Left Front for its terror tactics but this regime, since the end of the coalition, has all but eclipsed their predecessor," he said.
Mr Chowdhury alleged that the strife among TMC's trade union wing was hampering production in profitable units and impeding industrial growth as a result.
"Since their regime, 22 factories had to be closed and workers were suffering," the Baharampur Member of Parliament said.
On the state Congress, he said despite having a dedicated workforce, there was a dearth of true leaders in the party.
"We must work from the grassroots now," he said at the meeting flanked by Member of Legislative Assembly Asit Mitra and Maya Ghosh.
