Loud blasts were heard till around two to three kilometres away after a truck carrying over 60 cooking gas cylinders caught fire in Ghaziabad early Saturday morning.
In the fire reported at Bhopura Chowk on Delhi-Wazirabad Road in the Thana Teela Mod area of Ghaziabad district, no casualties or injuries have been reported yet. However, at least four furniture shops in the vicinity were destroyed. Some vehicles parked nearby were also burned.
Concerned residents came out of their houses after the blast sounds caused an alarm in the area.
"The sound of the cylinder blast can be heard for several kilometres in the vicinity," Chief Fire Officer Rahul Kumar said.
He also said that it took more than eight fire tenders around 90 minutes to control the fire.
According to officials, when the truck driver noticed the fire, he parked it near a petrol pump. Soon after, the blasts happened, and the staff deserted the pump.
