Trying for an amicable settlement: Jet pilots

Mumbai: The Jet management arrived at the Atithi Hotel in Mumbai on Saturday to again meet the striking pilots.

Jet Executive Director Saroj Datta and Vice President K Mohan met the pilots to resolve the deadlock.

Addressing the media, pilots' representative Girish Kaushik said that they will discuss the management's offer.

"I am sad that public is facing inconvenience because pilots are not flying, aircrafts are grounded and image of the airline is being damaged," Kaushik said.

Mr Datta was magnanimous in accepting the boys whose contracts were terminated, he added.

The pilots also said that management not insistent on scrapping pilots' union.

The two sides spent eight hours on the negotiating table on Friday where the Jet management agreed to reinstate the four sacked pilots. But the sore point was the fact that the management wanted to disband the newly-founded pilots union -- the national aviators' guild, a condition which the pilots opposed.

Meanwhile, the government has already asked other airlines to increase their flights so that passengers have alternatives to cancelled Jet flights.
