Nagpur: HCL Technologies will employ 2,000 people at it upcoming Nagpur global IT centre. The campus, which is expected to be operational by January 2017 at the 50-acre Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur or MIHAN will conduct recruitment in three phases, reported the Press Trust of India.
"We are excited to start our operations in Nagpur. Through this initiative we aim to create 2,000 jobs in the city, creating a sustainable pipeline of local talent," said HCL senior vice-president Sanjay Gupta, further adding that the metropolis offers quality local talent, reported the agency.
The IT giant, unlike its peers, is looking for talent and establishing operations in small towns with potential scalability of infrastructure. The company has already established training centres in Madurai and Lucknow.
Last month, HCL Technologies emerged at number 6 spot in LinkedIn's Top Companies 2017: Where India wants to work now report. The professional networking site said the IT major has 1,11,000 employees globally. "The company recently recruited 200 high school students into an on-the-job training program for software engineers with the goal of developing a pipeline of skilled tech talent for entry-level jobs," said HCL's 'Talent Pipeline' section of the report.
India's job market activity, led by the IT-software industry, recorded a decline of 4 per cent in May 2017, The Naukri Job Speak index for May stated.
With a sluggish economy and H1B visa restrictions in US, this trend is expected to continue for a few more months.
When asked about this, Mr Gupta said his company has very little dependency on H1B visas since most of its work is based locally.
