Srinagar: Srinagar witnessed two militant attacks within minutes of each other on Saturday. In the first incident, some unidentified shooters fired at three CRPF men, barely 50 metres from a hotel where a Congress convention was taking place. Two of them are critical.
Minutes later there was another attack in which a police constable was shot from close range.
"Police were checking a vehicle here and the driver was being asked why he stopped here. Militants came, fired upon a constable in the head and he died on the spot," said Muhammad Yusuf, Deputy SP, Srinagar.
He is the first policeman to have been killed in Srinagar in two years. The last such attack happened in 2007 after which police arrested a man who confessed to have killed 14 policemen from point blank range.
The cop killer gave slip to the police but police have launched a manhunt to identify and nab him.
