Two Dead, 10 Injured As Cab Falls Into Gorge In Uttarakhand

The taxi fell into a 150-metre-deep gorge near Bailgaon in Tehri district, killing the driver and a woman passenger on the spot.

12 people were in the taxi which was on its way to Chamba from Chjinyalisaur in Uttarkashi district.

Two persons, including a woman, were killed and 10 injured when a cab fell into a gorge on the Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway in New Tehri today, police said.

The cab, carrying 12 people, was on its way to Chamba from Chjinyalisaur in Uttarkashi district. It fell into a 150-metre-deep gorge near Bailgaon in Tehri district, killing the driver and a woman passenger on the spot, SSP Yogendra Singh Rawat said. 

The deceased have been identified as 53-year-old Ram Singh Rana, who was driving the vehicle, and 40-year-old Leela Devi who hailed from Chinyalisaur, he said.

The injured were rushed to Baurari hospital, from where five were referred to AIIMS, Rishikesh, the police official said.
