Two Killed by Lightning as Rains Lash Eastern Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: Two people were killed and three others injured after being struck by lightning as moderate to heavy rains lashed several parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh since yesterday.

Govardhan (38) and Ramawati (40) were killed after being hit by lightning in separate incidents in Tulsipur area of Balrampur district last evening, Sub-divisional Magistrate Y B Singh said.

He said that assistance of Rs 1.5 Lakh would be given to the family members of the two victims.

Phaphamau in Allahabad received 13 cm rainfall as several parts of the eastern districts of the state received moderate to very heavy rains or thundershowers.

Other areas which received rains were Phoolpur, Dhaurahra, Bani, Varanasi, Sirauli Gauspur, Patti, Elgin Bridge, Chandauli, Pilibhit, Nighasan, Chatnag, Bhinga, Paliakalan, Neemsar, Madiahu, Ghorawal, Sahabad and Bahedi.

Rains or thundershowers are likely in many parts of the state in the coming days, according to the Met department.
