Two Poachers Killed in Kaziranga National Park

Two poachers were killed last night during an encounter with forest guards in the Kaziranga National Park in Assam, forest officials said.

The incident took place at Kukura-kata hill of Burapahar range of the national park.

A forest official said that he got information about poachers entering through the north bank of Burapahar range and he immediately alerted the forest guards. The forest guards then launched an ambush at several places in the Burapahar range.

At midnight, the forest guards noticed a group of poachers and encountered them. While two of them died in the ambush, three others escaped. The dead bodies of the poachers were recovered today early morning. They have been identified as Manas Ali and Taher Ali, both from Tezpur district in Assam.

Forest officials and police have found one 303 rifle, one hand-made rifle, some bullets and ID cards.18 poachers have been killed at the Kaziranga National Park this year.
