Guwahati: Two Meghalaya policemen were killed and another was injured today in a blast at Tebronggre, about 18 km from Tura in West Garo Hills. The cops who were killed - a constable and a driver - were on a patrolling duty when the IED blast took place at around 5 pm.
"Five police personnel were in a gypsy on regular patrolling, when the IED explosion took place. Our teams have gone to the spot and we are waiting for details," Superintendent of police, West Garo Hills, Mukesh Singh said.
While one of the policemen died on the spot, the other succumbed to his injuries in a hospital in Tura.
The third policeman, who is critically injured, is being shifted to Guwahati for further medical treatment.
The police suspect the IED blast was triggered by the Garo National Liberation Army or GNLA, a militant outfit active in the Garo Hills area of Meghalaya.
