Raipur: Two police officers were killed and another five were injured when Maoists ambushed a police team in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region today.
The team of 24 officers on 12 motorbikes were on a search operation in Kanker district's Bande area, around 350 km from state capital Raipur.
Around 4.30 pm, when they were headed towards Maharashtra border, the Maoists cornered them.
A Station House Officer, Avinash Sharma and an assistant constable, Sonu, were killed in the encounter, which lasted for about an hour.
The injured men have been admitted to a local hospital. Additional forces have been rushed to the spot.
