New Delhi:
In two instances of security breach within a day, an elderly man and a youth intruded into the high-profile Indira Gandhi International airport in New Delhi, prompting the security authorities to order a probe.
Both 65-year-old Fazr Mohammed and 28-year-old Uday Raj Chauhan told the police that they wanted to fly to Gulf countries to earn a livelihood.
Mohammed climbed the wall from the side of emergency gate five to enter the airport at around 10 pm last night, but was detained by CISF personnel, a senior police official said. He was later handed over to police.
During his questioning, he told the police that he wanted to go to Saudi Arabia but did not have the money.
Chauhan, who also claimed he wanted to go to Dubai to earn his livelihood, was arrested after he illegally entered the domestic terminal of the IGI and reached the apron area to board an Air India aircraft at around 4 am on Saturday.
A resident of Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district, Chauhan had climbed up a tree and jumped inside the technical area of the domestic terminal.
He then moved to the apron area and was trying to get inside one of the Air India aircraft when the security staff nabbed him. Chauhan was also handed over to police.
Meanwhile, CISF, which is in-charge of IGI security, has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
CISF spokesperson Rohit Katiyar said the probe panel would look into the incidents of intrusions and submit recommendations on how to check such incidents. "They will submit the report soon."
Last month, a man in an inebriated condition had sneaked into the airport and slept on the runway. The Air Traffic Control (ATC) radar had detected him sleeping on the runway when an aircraft was about to land.
A tragedy was averted when the ATC directed the pilot not to land.
Arun Rai, 33, was then apprehended and was handed over to Delhi Police for interrogation.
According to CISF officials, Rai, who was allegedly in an inebriated condition at the time of the incident, had managed to jump over the periphery wall from Samalakha side of the airport, where a huge mound of earth has accumulated due to construction work of a drain nearby.
