The Uber CEO and co-founder addresses entrepreneurs in New Delhi on Saturday.
New Delhi:
Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick said he thinks of himself as the "problem solver-in-chief" at work. He was speaking at Startup India, the government's mega meet ahead of the launch later this evening of its initiative to encourage entrepreneurs.
Top global entrepreneurs are discussing the present and future scenarios at the meet which will end with Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiling the government's action plan for the initiative.
"New York City has had around 13,000 cabs for 60 years," he said. "That's artificial scarcity. Taxi drivers pay 40,000 dollars per year to rent a car. That was the actual problem that created Uber," he added, telling entrepreneurs to look for ways to turn gaps into opportunities. "We couldn't find taxis and we did something about it."
"At Uber I think of myself as the problem solver-in-chief. I want as many hard problems as I can get...You have to be the math professor that keeps looking for the next harder problem," the Uber chief, who co-founded the cab services company in 2009, said. "Of course Uber is about transportation, but if you tell your story in a way to present a bigger picture, you can inspire people," Mr Kalanick, who is said to invest in and advise other entrepreneurs, said.
