Udaipur Tailor Murder: City Curfew Eased, Internet Back In Few Districts

Two men hacked to death a tailor, Kanhaiya Lal, with a cleaver at his shop in Udaipur's Dhan Mandi area on Tuesday to avenge an "insult to Islam".

The curfew imposed in Udaipur after the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal will be relaxed for 10 hours tomorrow, the district administration announced. Internet services have also been restored in a few districts in Rajasthan.  

Kanhaiya Lal, 48, was murdered on Tuesday by two men who filmed the killing. The killers claimed that they killed Kanhaiya Lal to avenge an "insult to Islam". Later, Riaz Akhtari and Gos Mohammad put out another video in which they bragged about the murder and also threatened to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Following the incident, a curfew was imposed in areas falling under the limits of seven police stations -- Dhan Mandi, Ghanta Ghar, Hathi Pole, Amba Mata, Suraj Pole, Bhupalpura, and Savina.

As Udaipur limps back to normalcy, the district administration announced a relaxation in the curfew from 8 am to 6 pm tomorrow. Today, the Udaipur administration had relaxed the curfew for four hours.

Mobile internet services have been restored in five districts - Ajmer, Jhunjhunu, Barmer, Bikaner, and Jodhpur.

Earlier today, the four accused were sent to the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) till July 12.
