Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's father-in-law Madhav Patankar died at a hospital in Mumbai today. He was 76. A senior Shiv Sena leader said Madhav Patankar had been unwell for quite some time.

Supriya Sule, a senior leader of Shiv Sena's coalition partner NCP, tweeted her condolences to Rashmi Thackeray, Madhav Patankar's daughter and wife of the Chief Minister.

"Deeply saddened to hear the demise of Sri Madhav Patankar, father of Mrs Rashmi Uddhav Thackeray. My heartfelt condolences...," she wrote.

Madhav Patankar was hospitalized several times in the recent past because of his health, especially a kidney condition. He lived close to Matoshree, the Thackeray residence.

Following news of his death, Uddhav Thackeray cancelled his meeting with the Congress leaders. The meeting had been called to address complaints of the Congress, which is reportedly upset and alleges that it has been left out of key decision-making.

"Some issues are there and for that we need to speak with the Chief Minister one on one," Balasaheb Thorat, the revenue minister said. "But due to personal reasons, he cancelled the meeting today. The key meeting will be held in the next few  days, he added.
