Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi today conveyed a message from President Xi Jinping to Prime Minister Narendra Modi: "Under your leadership, India will achieve greater development and progress".
The meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Mr Yi, the special envoy of President Xi Jinping, lasted for 45 minutes.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was also present at the meeting, which was "constructive and cordial", according to a release by the foreign ministry.
"China and India are partners in long term strategic cooperation. Let us work together to achieve peaceful cooperation and inclusive development for the benefit of our two people and in the interest of peace, stability and prosperity in Asia and the world," Mr Yi told President Jinping.
Prime Minister Modi told Mr Yi, "We are looking forward to working with the Chinese leadership to expand our partnership".
Earlier in the day, Mr Yi called on President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
"There is consensus across the political spectrum in India on maintaining a close and cooperative relationship with China. The new government will strive to place the India-China relationship on a trajectory of stable growth, development and expansion," the President told the Chinese foreign minister.
On Sunday, Mr Yi had held talks with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi, during which "all issues of significance" were on the table, including the unsettled border, Tibet, stapled visas and trade imbalance.
