Srinagar:
For six years, a bunker was home to dreaded Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants Muzaffar Hussain and Zakir Hussain, until the police killed them in it on Thursday.
NDTV has exclusive pictures of that bunker, just 15 kilometers away from the nearest road - hidden under a maize and vegetable field in the remote mountains of Doda.
Its entrance is hidden behind by rocks and boulders. Inside the bunker is meticulously designed a well-stocked kitchen and a space that doubles up as living area and bedroom.
A waterfall near the bunker took care of the water requirements.
Muzaffar Hussain and Zakir Hussain were leaders who recce-ed cities, chalked our terror plans and then hid in the bunker.
The ground workers would call their bunkers, take orders and execute them.
"They hid themselves here, kept all supplies including food. The ground workers carried out their orders,'' said Prabhat Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda.
''The instructions from the top are to target the leadership of militants. And you would know that from January 17, we have eliminated three important militant leaders,'' said K A S Bhullar, GoC Romeo Force.
While militants are continuously evolving new techniques of evading the security forces and avoiding direct confrontation with them, the security forces have been able to maintain constant pressure through successful anti-militancy operations.
