Lucknow: Alleging that corruption was at its "peak" in Uttar Pradesh, BJP today asked Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to "clearly underline" the promises fulfilled by the state government led by his son Akhilesh Yadav during its three-and-a-half years in power.
"The SP supremo claims from public platforms that all the promises made by his party in its election manifesto have been fulfilled. He should clearly underline what promises have been fulfilled," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.
He said that SP promised kanya vidyadhan, unemployment allowance, commission to probe into corruption cases, committee to fixed rate of agricultural produce and free tablets to high school pass students.
"What happened to those promises should be clarified by the SP supremo and Akhilesh Yadav government," he said.
Mr Pathak said that Mr Mulayam had also had said that if any leader was found involved in illegal mining should be sent to jail.
"Who will dare to lay hand on SP leaders when officers are being suspended without any legitimate reason," he alleged while referring to IAS Durga Shakti Nagpal case.
The spokesman alleged that public admission of Mr Mulayam and PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav that some leaders were "concentrating on making money" indicated that corruption was at its "peak".
"Those, who have the responsibility of taking action, are merely involved in making statements. Time has come that instead of giving advice, they should take strong action," Mr Pathak said.
