Kolkata:
Praising West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as a "fighter", senior BJP leader and Union Minister Harsh Vardhan today said he would congratulate her on the victory in civic polls when he meets her during his visit to the state.
"The whole country knows that she is a fighter. She fought her way to that position in which she is. She certainly has some good qualities also which we should appreciate. But we should not get into politics in everything," Mr Vardhan, who is on a three-day visit to Kolkata, told reporters in Kolkata.
The Union Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences said he will meet Banerjee during his stay in Kolkata.
When asked if he would congratulate her on the victory in civic polls, Mr Vardhan said, "Obviously! If she has done something successfully and if I meet her, I will say that you deserve my congratulations. What is so unusual about it?"
Asking mediapersons not to read political motives behind the meeting, he said the agenda of the meeting is not to congratulate her.
"I am a strong BJP man and I would always wish that BJP should grow here and BJP should be in power here one day and it will happen one day," Mr Vardhan said.
