Jammu: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh today reached out his diabetic patients by conducting examination of over 150 patients at special camp in Jammu city.

Dr Singh, who was here in connection with Union Home Minister's visit to Jammu and Kashmir, took out time from his busy schedule to examined over his 150 patients during a free medical-cum-diabetes awareness camp, organized by an NGO Shakti Kendra.

"I have been doing this for last over 20 years now and have huge number of patients to take care not only here but across the country. I have taken part in such camps across the country", Dr Singh told reporters in Jammu today.

"People keep expecting that I would be back to them performing this task of mine. Therefore not withstanding the other preoccupations, I think this is kind of profession and a social obligation that I am expected to discharge as far as possible", he said.

"For two years we have carried a sustained a diabetic campaign in young across the country because India is the youngest country in the world. More 65 per cent population below the age of 35 years", he said.

"There has been upsurge of diabetes among the youth which we have to tackle", he said adding apart for targeting young, second group, we are targeting women.

"We are very happy to be examined by him. Although we were taking some advise in case problem from time to time on phone, but his personal examination has given us satisfaction. I am his patient from past 13 years", Usha Sharma of Roopnagar in Jammu, said.

Speaking at a public awareness programme on diabetes, hypertension and metabolic diseases here today, Union Minister, said that in the present age and times, the youth, by and large are found to be more stressed than elders.
