Thane: The water crisis is the fallout of the "faulty planning" by previous regime, Union minister Radha Mohan Singh today claimed as he took a dig at top Congress leadership over the plight of farmers.

"The water crisis you are facing is due to wrong planning of that government. Now is the time to rectify things and put them in place," the Union Agriculture Minister said addressing a farmers' rally in Bhiwandi taluka of the district.

The Minister alleged that various measures for farmers undertaken by previous government failed to reach the end-beneficiaries as they were "riddled with leakages".

Taking a dig at Congress president Sonia Gandhi, he said, "Vidarbha is not Italy and one should realise this. These people do not know what is the difference between cereals and vegetables and they come to assist farmers."

He also told farmers that taxes they are paying to government are now "exclusively" used for their welfare.

"The tax money is not swindled and there is no corruption like previous times. The money which got swindled in 2G and Coalgate scams is getting deposited in government's kitty now. There will be no shortage of money for farmers," he said.
