New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today called on Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in New Delhi before formal talks.
"The week begins with Maldives. EAM @SushmaSwaraj calls on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom before formal talks," foreign ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup said in a tweet.
President Yameen, who is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the day, is on a two-day trip to India. He was among the SAARC leaders who had attended PM Modi's swearing-in in May, 2014.
Earlier, Ms Swaraj had visited Maldives in November 2014 and again in October 2015 for the India-Maldives Joint Commission, held after 15 years.
President Yameen would also call on President Pranab Mukherjee today.
