Etah, UP: A week after two teenage sisters were gang-raped and found hanging from a tree in the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh, a chilling reminder of the case has been reported from the state again.
In the Siyapur village of the Etah district in western UP, 85 kilometres from Badaun, two sisters aged 14 and 15 have been gang-raped by three men.
The teenagers had left their home to go a nearby flour mill when they were allegedly abducted by their assaulters who later took them to a nearby jungle and raped them. The incident happened on Thursday.
The three accused were arrested after the family of the girls lodged a police complaint.
Medical examination of the sisters has confirmed rape.
As resentment is growing over brutal attacks on women in Uttar Pradesh, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and his family have made a series of callous comments.
Earlier this week, the young chief minister alleged biased reportage by the media and suggested a "google search" to determine that rape cases do not just take place in UP.
"When such incidents occur it is publicised a lot... such incidents don't occur only in UP and if I give you statistics across the country you will again ask me questions. It's Google era. If you go online and check you will see where else such incidents occur," he told reporters on Tuesday.
A day later, his father and Samajwadi Party Mulayam Singh Yadav snapped at reporters saying, "You do your work, I will do mine".
