UP Assembly Elections: UP is voting in seven rounds. Results will be declared on March 10.

The Uttar Pradesh elections are a fight between the dynasts and diehard nationalists, which the opposition parties do not understand, Prime Minister said today, as he campaigned for the BJP today. Addressing his second election rally of the day in Deoria, Modi attacked previous governments in Uttar Pradesh, saying they shut sugar mills and didn't clear dues of sugarcane farmers.

The Phase 5 of Uttar Pradesh assembly election, in which voting was held in 61 constituencies including Ayodhya today, recorded 54 per cent average turnout till 5 pm, as per the revised figure.

This phase is crucial for the BJP as the party and its allies won 50 of the 61 seats here in the 2017 elections. A resurgent Samajwadi Party led by Akhilesh Yadav is the BJP's biggest challenger here.

The districts going to the polls today include Sultanpur, Chitrakoot, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Barabaki, Bahraich, Shravasti and Gonda.

With the completion of polling on Sunday, Uttar Pradesh will have voted on 292 of the total 403 seats in the Assembly. The last two phases of the elections will be held on March 3 and 7. The results will be declared on March 10.

UP Assembly Election 2022: People have decided to send 'babaji' back to his 'math': Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday claimed that the people of Uttar Pradesh have decided to send 'Babaji' back to his 'math', apparently referring to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Adityanath, who was a five-time MP from Gorakhpur, is the mahant of the Gorakhnath Math.

Addressing a rally in the Chillupar constituency of Gorakhpur in favour of SP candidate Vinay Shankar Tiwari, Yadav said, "Today voting in being held for the fifth phase and everyone has decided to send 'Babaji' back to his 'math'." At another rally in Deoria, the SP chief said, "Babaji did not give you laptop as he does not know how to operate it. He even does not know how to run a smart phone. How can a chief minister who does not know how to run a laptop and does not understand the importance of computers and smart phones run the state?" Yadav claimed that there were no crowds at BJP's meetings and chairs are being spread out to give the impression of a large gathering.

'India favours world peace': Rajnath Singh

In the backdrop of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said India favours world peace.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi's role is being appreciated on the matter. India is peace-lover. India has never attacked any country and never grabbed land of other country.

"We want world peace and everyone should accept it," Rajnath Singh said addressing an election rally here in Bairia.

He said after surgical and air strike on Pakistan India's image changed in the world.

PM Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria, his second election rally in the state today
  • We have made 18 new medical colleges in the state, and (construction) work underway in 20. We also set up AIIMS in Gorakhpur. We are also trying that the poor children get to study medical, engineering in their  own language.
  • Some time ago, I laid foundation stones of 9 medical colleges in UP including Deoria's Maharshi Devraha Baba Autonomous State Medical College. This medical college could have been constructed before, but these 'Pariwardis' never prioritized you.
  • This election is between 'Rashtravadis and Parivarwadis'...Remember how you had to take your vehicles to Gorakhpur in medical emergencies because the then govt didn't pay any heed to people's medical needs here. Many innocent kids died due to brain fever.

UP Polls 2022: 34% Voter Turnout Till 1 pm, 38% Polling In Ayodhya

According to the Election Commission of India's voter turnout app, the polling percentage till 1 pm is 34.83.  The voting started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. Around 2.24 crore people are eligible to vote in this phase.

While Amethi recorded 35.93 per cent voting, Ayodhya saw 38.74 per cent, Bahraich 37.25 per cent, Barabanki 36.23 per cent, Chitrakoot 39.08 per cent, Gonda 34.36 per cent, Kaushambi 37.23 per cent, Pratapgarh 33.59 per cent, Prayagraj 33.59 per cent, Raebareli 33.64 per cent, Shrawasti 36.5 per cent and Sultanpur 34.85 per cent, it said.

"Can't Let My Vote Go Waste": Elderly Woman Comes For Voting In Stretcher In UP


An elderly woman was escorted on a stretcher to a polling booth in Prayagraj.

" I have to come like this because I have a fracture in my back, but can't let me vote go waste," she was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

UP Polls 2022: "Government working day and night for Indians stranded abroad," says PM

PM Modi is addressing a rally in Basti, Uttar Pradesh. Speaking at the rally, PM Modi said that his government is making all efforts to bring back people stranded in Ukraine.

21% Voter Turnout Till 11 am, EVM Problem Recorded In Some Places

Twenty-one percent of the eligible voters have exercised their right till 11 AM. Amethi and Raebareli, once considered the Congress bastions, and Ayodhya, the epicentre of the Ram temple movement, are among the assembly seats where polling is taking place in this phase.
