Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today met Mayawati and offered condolences to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president on the death of her mother. The Congress General Secretary met the BSP leader at her residence at 3 Tyagaraj Marg this morning.
Ramrati, the 92-year-old of Mayawati, died from heart failure on Saturday, at a hospital in Delhi where she was undergoing treatment.
Mayawati had left for Delhi soon after getting information about the death of her mother. The last rites will be performed in Delhi on Sunday, the BSP said in a statement.
About a year ago, Mayawati's father had died at the age of 95, the release added.
Mayawati has begun campaigning for next year's assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
The BSP chief has said that she will not enter into an alliance with any political party and expressed confidence that her party will get an "absolute majority, just like we got in 2007".
"BSP won't have any "chunavi samjhauta" (poll agreement) with any party. We'll contest on our own. We are entering into an agreement with people of all sections of society to bring them together -this alliance is permanent. Don't intend to enter into an alliance with any party," she said.
Mayawati also alleged that Samajwadi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party are two sides of the same coin.
The BSP chief was also critical on Priyanka Gandhi's party, the Congress, accusing it of trying to mislead voters with false poll promises.
"Had Congress fulfilled even 50 per cent of their poll promises they wouldn't have been out of power at the Centre, Uttar Pradesh and in most of the states," she said.
Elections for 403 assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh are due early next year.
In the 2017 Assembly elections, the BJP won a landslide victory winning 312 Assembly seats. The party secured a 39.67 per cent vote share in the elections for 403-member Assembly.
