The Bihar-Uttar Pradesh troika, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Ram Vilas Paswan and Mulayam Singh Yadav, are holding their first joint rally at Saifai in Uttar Pradesh. Saifai is the hometown of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh.
The Fourth Front, comprising the UP-Bihar troika, was formed in March 2009, and will contest 120 seats in the two states.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad has repeatedly said that the new coalition is part of the UPA, and that they have come together to stop communal forces from coming to power.
The three joined hands after the Congress said it would not have a nationwide alliance.
After Saifai, they plan to hold joint rallies in Varanasi, Lucknow and several places in Bihar.
And just ahead of Thursday's rally, Lalu Prasad, speaking to NDTV, rejected reports that he may root for Mulayam Singh as a prime ministerial candidate.
