Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said no prior information had been provided by Nepal on the release of water that led to the flooding in parts of the state.

He also blamed the Central government for lack of coordination with the neighbouring country.

"We will like the Central government to establish very good relation with Nepal so that we could get prior information about such things...

"Nepal is our neighbour and a friendly country, and if there is a need to extend support for constructing a barrage there for checking floods occurring annually, the Centre should help," he told reporters after touring flood-hit areas of the state.

Not only UP, other parts of the country also face similar problems every year because of the water released in rivers from the Nepal side, he said.

Mr Yadav alleged that the state government did not receive any help from the Centre to deal with the floods.

The chief minister said he would avoid making any statement as the Model Code of Conduct is in effect due to the coming Assembly by polls.

At least 90 people lost their lives in the flood related incidents in parts of UP.
