UP Congress celebrates Rahul Gandhi's birthday as 'Kisan Adhikar Diwas'

With Assembly elections in UttarPradesh due early next year, the opportunity is being utilised by the state unitto reach out to the farmers.

The agitation at Bhatta-Parsaul inGreater Noida on the land acquisition issue by Gandhi recently had generated alot of heat politically.

Enquiries at his 12 Tuglak Laneresidence revealed that the young leader was not at home and no celebration hadbeen planned.

Ahead of the birthday, party general secretary Digvijaya Singh had said Gandhi has got "all the qualities and capabilities"that are required to become a "good" Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Kisan chaupals (farmergatherings) were today organised in all the nyay panchyats in Gandhi's Amethi constituency.

The party office bearers organisedchaupals in all 712 nyay panchyats in Amethi to hear problems faced by farmers.

Party leader Rajesh Srivastav saidthis year neither cake was cut nor sweets were distributed on Gandhi's birthdaybut the party workers tried to mingle with farmers.

"We will fight for the cause offarmers and get their problems redressed," he said.
