Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son, Ashish, accused of running over farmers in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri, was arrested on Saturday after being questioned for over 12 hours in Lakhimpur Kheri. The police said he had been giving "evasive answers" and not cooperating. He had skipped the summons yesterday due to health reasons, said his father.
The UP police have filed a case of murder against Ashish Mishra but have not arrested him so far. Though the Union Minister admits the SUV that ran over farmers belongs to him, he maintains his son was not in it.
Eight people, including four farmers, died in the UP district on Sunday after a car ran over a group of demonstrators protesting against the visit by junior Home Minister Ajay Mishra and UP's Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.
The farmer said that the incident was a "pre-planned conspiracy". They demanded that Union Minister Ajay Mishra should also be removed from the government as he started this conspiracy and is also protecting the culprits in the case

Bharatiya Janata Party national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia on Saturday stressed that it is the party's commitment to bring justice to victims' families in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.
"It is our commitment to bring justice in the Lakhimpur Kheri case. Only after getting justice, we will now sit in peace. The first procedure while following the course of the law states that whether FIR is registered. In this case, FIR was immediately registered," said Mr Bhatia.
"It is the rule of law in Uttar Pradesh. We will ensure speedy justice is brought to families who have lost their loved ones in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and put the accused behind bars," he added.

Law must take its course against "whoever is involved", the Supreme Court reminded the Uttar Pradesh government over the Lakhimpur violence amid countrywide outrage. "What is the message that you are sending? Even in normal circumstances... will the police not go immediately and arrest the accused. Things have not proceeded the way they should have. Burning Effigies, Rail Roko, Mahapanchayat: Farmers' Plans To Protest Killings
Farmers' groups will burn effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 15, and hold a nationwide 'rail roko' on October 18 and a mahapanchayat in Lucknow on October 26 to protest the violence and death of eight people, including four farmers, in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday.

Legal experts have questioned the notice issued under this section to an accused in a murder case. However, police sources say that a person summoned under Section 160 CrPC can also be arrested based on their statements.

Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of several farmer unions, alleged that Ashish Mishra Teni, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra arrived with three vehicles around the time that farmers were dispersing from their protest at the helipad and mowed down farmers and towards the end also attacked SKM leader Tajinder Singh Virk directly, by trying to run a vehicle over him.

UP Farmers' Killing: Lakhimpur, Bahraich Continue To Attract Opposition Leaders
Leaders of opposition parties continued to visit the homes of four farmers and a journalist who were among the eight killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence on Sunday.
Since Wednesday when the state government allowed politicians to visit Lakhimpur Kheri in a group of up to five persons, leaders of the Congress, SP, BSP and AAP have been heading to the homes of victim farmers and scribe Raman Kashyap.
While SP chief Akhilesh Yadav visited Bahraich on Friday, Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu visited Lakhimpur Kheri and so was a delegation of the Shiromani Akali Dal, led by former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
