Lucknow:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today sought from the special court here the custody of two close aides of former state minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh, also known as Raja Bhaiya, arrested by the state police in connection with the murder of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zia-Ul-Haq and related violence.
CBI sources said the agency moved a plea before the special court seeking police remand of Rajeev Singh and Sanjay Singh alias Guddu Singh, arrested by state police in connection with Balipur violence in which the DSP, village head Nanhe Yadav and his brother Suresh were murdered.
The court is likely to decide the plea tomorrow.
Meanwhile, CBI Joint Director RS Bhatti today arrived in Lucknow and held a series of meetings with top police and government officials seeking logistical assistance from the state government for the agency team camping in Pratapgarh.
The sources said Mr Bhatti met Director General of Police (DGP) Ambrish Sharma, Additional Director General (law and order) Arun Kumar, Principal Secretary Home and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister.
They said, during the meeting Mr Bhatti asked the police to provide details of call records collected by the special task force and also logistical help like additional manpower of police, a building, and vehicles for the team.
A team in Pratapgarh questioned Station Officer of Manikpur Inspector Pankaj Singh where murdered DSP had launched a drive against illegal sand mining and seized number of trucks and tractors, CBI sources said.
The agency sleuths also met the Chief Medical Officer of Pratapgarh and questioned a team of doctors who carried out post mortem at the district hospital and the doctor of Community Health Centre at Kunda which had declared village head Nanhe Yadav dead, they said.
CBI has registered four cases pertaining to three murders in village Balipur on March 2 and has booked Raja Bhaiya in one of the cases for murder.
