Lucknow:
In the wake of the ongoing power crisis in the state, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has cancelled leave of all of its staff for the next 15 days, official sources said on Monday.
In a circular sent to managing directors of power distribution companies and departmental heads, UPPCL's Chairman and Managing Director Navneet Sehgal has said that no employees will take leave for the next 15 days.
The circular said that leaves will only be sanctioned in extraordinary circumstances with the written permission of the superintendent or chief engineer concerned.
The CMD had directed the field staff to check transformers on a regular basis so as to avoid technical snags, which may lead to breakdowns.
The sub-divisional officers and executive engineers have been asked to inspect sub-stations after the sunset and identify hot spots.
It had been directed that in case of an increase in demand during peak hours, rostering should be imposed on industries, official sources said.
No rostering should be done for domestic and agricultural sector and power supply should be ensured as per the schedule, the circular said.
Despite heavy import, the state continues to reel under acute power crisis.
As against the restricted demand of 8,000 mega watt only 6,500 MW power was available, which included an import of 800 to 1,100 MW from the central sector and other resources.
The acute power crisis had led to demonstrations and agitations by residents at a number of places in the state.
On June 27, agitated people blocked the national highway in Gonda district and torched a police outpost.
